Indianapolis Queer Grief Community is a community organization committed to providing safe + affirming spaces for grieving queer people to find support. Our mission is to support the LGBTQ+ grief journey by fostering healing, resilience, and hope through community. Our flagship program, Grief in Color, is a 6-week, limited-space, LGBTQ+ grief support group where participants can share their experiences and find support with folx who get it. IQGC works hard to make Grief in Color accessible to all by obtaining sponsorships from the community and providing tuition assistance to those in need. In addition to Grief in Color, IQGC offers Reading Rainbows, a free book club for queer grievers, many other meetups and community building opportunities, and has a growing library of readily available resources.

Indianapolis Queer Grief Community was founded by Alex Adams (she/her), licensed funeral director and certified celebrant, in November of 2023, a little more than a year after the profound loss of a dear loved one. After searching for a grief support group where she wouldn’t have to explain the ins and outs of life and loss as a queer person, and eventually realizing that no such group existed in Indiana, Alex decided to create the space herself. Alex is deeply committed to the belief that the essence of community lies in compassionate care. She advocates that the queer community deserves access to such care without the burden of validation or explanation of their existence.
