Feeding Joy

A collection of canned food items, including various brands and types such as green beans, pineapple, and beans, stacked inside a shopping cart.

Feeding Joy is Indy Pride’s food access program, created in response to the growing food insecurity facing LGBTQ+ Hoosiers across Central Indiana. Rooted in the belief that everyone deserves access to safe, healthy, nutritious food, Feeding Joy provides free monthly grocery boxes filled with shelf-stable essentials such as canned vegetables, proteins, beans, and boxed goods.

Food boxes are distributed through a drive-through pickup model, with limited delivery available for community members who are disabled, homebound, or lack reliable transportation. Thanks to a grant from the IndyGo Foundation, bus passes are also available to help participants travel to pickup locations.

Feeding Joy is currently supported through a one-year grant from the Meijer Foundation and offers a limited number of boxes each month on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are open year-round for those in need, with distributions typically taking place once per month, unless an emergency need arises. As we work to grow the program and serve more households, community support plays an essential role—through donations of unexpired pull-tab canned goods at Indy Pride events and partnerships with local organizations.

Feeding Joy reflects Indy Pride’s commitment to equity, belonging, and care in action—meeting immediate needs while building a stronger, more nourished community for the future. For questions or assistance related to this program, please contact Coordinator, Kris Wentland.
