About
Strong governance is the foundation of a strong community. In 2025, Indy Pride adopted a renewed governance structure designed to strengthen transparency, clarify decision-making, and ensure that our work reflects the needs and voices of LGBTQ+ Hoosiers across Central Indiana. As part of this effort, the Board implemented updated policies on conflicts of interest, financial controls, open Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and other key areas of organizational accountability.
Indy Pride is governed by a 15-member Board of Directors and supported by a professional staff team. While the full Board meets monthly throughout the year, the bulk of its work happens within our standing committees. Each committee is chaired by a Board Member and brings together leaders who provide focused oversight in areas essential to the organization’s mission, impact, and long-term health.
- The Finance Committee oversees the financial stewardship of the organization. Its work includes reviewing monthly financial statements, monitoring budgets and forecasts, guiding financial strategy, supporting fundraising and sponsorship efforts, and ensuring sound fiscal policies. This committee plays a central role in maintaining stability, stewarding resources responsibly, and sustaining programs that reflect our mission.
- The Programming Committee guides the development, evaluation, and long-term planning of Indy Pride’s programs and events. Its responsibilities include reviewing current offerings, proposing new initiatives, assessing program impact, and supporting partnerships that allow us to reach and represent the full diversity of our community. This committee ensures that our programming remains inclusive, accessible, and aligned with strategic goals.
- The Marketing and Public Relations Committee leads Indy Pride’s brand, communications, and public outreach. Committee members shape organizational messaging, develop marketing strategies, and ensure consistency with our brand identity. Their work strengthens community trust, amplifies diverse voices, and promotes Indy Pride’s mission year-round.
- The Governance Committee oversees board development, leadership practices, and organizational accountability. Its work includes recruiting and vetting potential board members, leading board orientation and education, recommending updates to bylaws and policies, and supporting strong governance norms. The committee also monitors compliance, coordinates board evaluations, and ensures that Indy Pride’s leadership structures remain ethical, transparent, and aligned with nonprofit best practices.
- The Executive Committee is composed of the Board’s elected officers—chosen each July—and the chairs of each standing committee. This group coordinates work across committees, collaborates closely with staff leadership, sets meeting agendas, and ensures the Board can act efficiently and responsibly when urgent matters arise. It also holds delegated authority in key governance domains, including HR matters and policy oversight.
Together, these committees help ensure that Indy Pride operates with clarity, accountability, and community-centered leadership.
