Indy Pride Launches New Food Access Program, Feeding Joy!

Share

We are proud to announce the start of a new program, Feeding Joy, an Indy Pride food access program! This new program will strive to provide a much needed response to the food insecurity crisis in Indianapolis. We here at Indy Pride believe that advocating for food access is more than just providing canned goods, it is working to ensure that everyone has access to safe, healthy, nutritious food. That’s why we are rolling up our sleeves and joining the fight for food parity! We will be providing free food boxes to people via a drive-through style pick up following submission and acceptance of the survey form.

The form to apply for a free food box will be open for submissions on September 1, 2025, and will be linked here. Bookmark this page to return on September 1 to apply.

Feeding Joy would not be possible without a generous financial grant designed to provide food access to Central Indiana. However, this grant will only allow us to provide a food access assistance for one year, and with a limited number of boxes each month. We are working to increase the number of boxes we are able to distribute, and hope to expand this program throughout the year.

We have a plan to make this program self-sustainable, and that involves you!

We will be collecting canned food donations at all of our events, including our Monthly Season Planning Committee Meeting on the Third Tuesday of every month. We will also be hosting open office hours twice a month to drop-off cans on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month from 10 AM until 4 PM! Please contact us if you have any questions!

Do you work for an organization or company that serves our local communities? Let’s talk! We are partnering with local organizations to ensure their clients have access to this new program!

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about the Program

Q: What kind of food can I expect in my grocery box?
A: At this time, each of our boxes are guaranteed to contain a selection of shelf-stable canned or boxed goods based on your household’s dietary needs and allergies.

Q: When can I expect my grocery box?
A: We will be offering a drive-through pick up to pass out boxes – details will be sent to recipients upon approval of form request. If you indicate that you are in need of delivery, we will contact you to arrange a delivery time.

Q: Can I request meat in my Grocery Box?
A: Due to limitations in refrigerated storage, we are unable to provide raw meat. We may include canned goods that contain meat, such as chicken noodle soup or canned meat/tuna, in your grocery box based on what’s available in our pantry unless you have specifically marked Vegetarian or Vegan in your Dietary Restrictions.
