In Solidarity: Queer Identities and Communities

Athenaeum
February 21, 2019
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join us on February 21st at The Athenaeum in the Wilkie Room for the second event in our 2019 Indy Pride Educational Series, In Solidarity: Queer Identities and Communities!

From business practices and places of worship and hospital policies, how do various industries show up for queer identities and communities? How does the queer community stand in solidarity with trans, gender non-binary, and the multitude of queer identities and communities? How does solidarity differ from ‘allyship’ (if at all)—and is this difference useful?

*ASL interpreter available upon request. Please email marketing@indypride.org to request an interpreter.

*This presentation will be led by Cheri Ellefson Roddy.

Cheri Ellefson Roddy is a gender studies lecturer at Ball State University; she will teach Queer Identities and Communities in Spring 2019. She is a passionate educator and avid traveler, recently delivering training seminars to partner institutions in Iraq and Pakistan. Ellefson Roddy is also co-owner of Queer Chocolatier; her experience in work-place policies shape her research. Ellefson Roddy builds on her recent Fulbright scholarship in examining the ‘solidarity’ rhetoric employed during and after the 2016 Black Protest Movement in Poland.
